The year 1982 marked the end of the road for the longest running generation of Corvette ever produced. The C3 generation had ridden many highs and lows, and yet year over year, continued to be a perennial best seller. For fifteen models year, beginning in 1968, the C3 Corvette evolved and changed to stay on top of the sports car market. General Motors and it's Chevrolet division couldn't let this generation Corvette go out without a bang, and so the 1982 Collector's Edition Corvette was conceived. Featuring a unique silver bronze paint with brown vinyl graphics, custom pin stripping, and aluminum turbo fin wheels reminiscent of the earlier C3 knock offs, this final edition Corvette was a real head turner. All the Collector Edition cars featured front and rear spoilers, white letter Goodyear Eagle rubber, and bronze tint removable T-tops. The Collector Edition also featured the first opening rear hatch, something that would carry on for the next 26 model years. On the inside, the Collector Edition model received custom silver-beige leather upholstery and door trim that matched the car’s exterior paint color. In addition to the leather upholstery, the steering wheel also received a matching hand-sewn leather wrap including the horn cap. High end, color-matched, luxury carpeting was also installed in all Collector coupes. Power windows and locks are present, along with a power drivers seat, AM/FM stereo with cassette, a quartz clock, and standard air conditioning. Under the hood was a completely new engine for 1982, and a harbinger of things to come for the new C4 model. Featuring a twin throttle body fuel injection set up, this new engine, dubbed "Crossfire", made 200 horsepower, a 10 horsepower increase over the 1981 Corvette. This new engine was linked to a new four speed automatic transmission, that featured a tall overdrive gear in fourth for improved fuel economy. The rear axle was the Dana 36 unit with limited slip to get the power to the ground. Suspension was independent at all four corners, with power assisted disc brakes helping to reign in the fun. The beautiful Corvette you see here has been garage kept and driven only enough to keep things lubricated for the last few years. It has some blemishes on the front nose that came from a run in with a work bench in the garage, but other than that is free of any physical damage. The paint has an excellent degree of gloss and the glass is in wonderful shape. It is a pleasure to drive, and runs like the day it was new. The A/C is original R12, and is not currently in working order. All other interior accessories function as expected. This is a nice quality driver Corvette that can be driven and enjoyed and taken to weekend car shows. It is sure to draw stares and attract attention wherever you go. Stop in and see it in our showroom today, or email Brian@Burnyzz.com and take this baby home to your garage!
