The fourth generation Corvette represented a paradigm shift in the direction of the Corvette when it debuted in 1984. Some would argue it was as equally large a change from the C3 as the new mid-engine C8 was to the C7. Gone was the boulevardier Corvette of the late C3 generation, and in its place stood the all-new Corvette ready to take on all competitors from any continent. The automotive press went wild for the C4 and Motor Trend named the Corvette Car of the Year for 1984. Changes and updates refined the recipe for success with each passing year. An all new L98 TPI 350CI V-8 engine brought 25 more horsepower over the L83 and improved drivability for 1985. The convertible returned to the lineup for 1986 and a bright yellow roadster did pace car duty for the Indianapolis 500 with Chuck Yeager behind the wheel that year. The engine picked up a few more horsepower with the introduction of aluminum heads and roller lifters for 1987, up to 240. Finally in 1988, a revised suspension brought better ride and improved handling, along with the first use of 17" wheels on a Corvette. This transmission was a combination of the classic four speed manual transmission with a bolt on overdrive unit that allowed for overdrive in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears, all controlled from a switch on top of the gear lever. The engineering philosophy was to offer the best of both worlds, performance and fuel economy. Inside this sports car is a luxury car interior, with multi-way powered leather sport bucket seats, tilt and telescopic steering column, automatic climate controls, auto dimming and heated mirrors, power windows, lock, and doors, and premium sound system. The instrument cluster is a sight to behold in all its arcade game glory and is a trademark of early C4 Corvettes. This classy Corvette was ordered on May 3rd, 1988, built May 16th, and shipped to Tom Sullivan Chevrolet-Buick Inc. in Harriman, NY. It went through its pre-delivery inspection on May 25th, and the next day it was purchased by one Mr. John Yanuklis of Monroe, NY. The grand total for this beauty rang the bell at $36,232.25 with the dealer added on fees for NY State Inspection, Rust Prevention (Umm, it's fiberglass?), and Fabric Protection.
