The second-generation Shelby GT500 appeared for the 2007 model year, exactly forty years after the original GT500 debuted in 1967. This was no coincidence as Ford had styled the S197 generation Mustang to recall the classic good looks of the 67-70' Mustang fastbacks, the Ford SVT team just took the ball and ran it into the endzone for a touchdown. The new generation of GT500 was not just a sticker and stripes job, it was every bit the performance car that the original was. In place of the standard 300hp 4.6L V-8 in the GT, Ford installed a hand built 5.4L, four-cam, 32 valve V8 that breathed 8.5psi of pressurized air from a roots style supercharger. All this added up to a nice round 500HP, a 200 horsepower increase over the GT, and made the 2007 GT500 the most powerful Mustang Ford had produced to that date. This monster mod motor was bolted exclusively to a TR6060 six speed manual transmission and fed power back to a Ford 8.8-inch rear solid axle with a specific 3.31 gear set. Chassis upgrades consisted of Tokico gas shocks and struts, a lower ride height, bigger sway bars front and rear, and a chassis brace in the engine compartment. Front brakes are huge 14" Brembo with four piston calipers while out back are 11.8" single piston discs. Staggered Goodyear Eagle F1 supercar tires help to put the power down to the pavement but can easily be overwhelmed with a mash of the throttle. This is a true driver's car, and it rewards the enthusiast driver with an experience that usually only comes in a much higher price range. The GT500 you see on offer here is a very well maintained, low mile beauty that causes envious stares and thumbs up from passersby. Equipped with the best color combination available this year and matching red and black seats, this GT500 has the race cars looks and the performance to back it up. The exhaust note from the dual exhaust system in a melodious burble at idle that turns into a ferocious bark as the revs rise. The whine from the supercharger is a like a sirens call and you will be entranced by it as the RPMs race to the 6,000rpm redline. This supercharged V8 revs so fast that you can get caught out so the thoughtful engineers at SVT installed a flashing red SVT shift light in the cluster and an audible alarm to tell you when to shift. This GT500 would make ol' Shell' a happy man, but it would make the new buyer truly ecstatic to be behind the wheel. Contact Brian at 352-307-1968 and take home this awesome automobile today!
