There are not many people out there who retain a car for a long term. Most classic cars have drifted from one owner to the next, and with each exchange of the keys, a little of the vehicle's history is lost to time. Fortunately, that is not the case with this particular 1969 Corvette. This Corvette is unique, not just in the fact is a factory black car, but more importantly, it is a one owner car since new. That's right, almost 54 years the keys have only jiggled around in one pocket. What that means is the history and documentation available for this car far outstrips what is found on most classic cars, even in the overly documented world of Corvettes. Picture this if you will, it is a sunny afternoon in May of 1969. One Mr. Edward R. Staszak of Redondo Beach California strolls into Harry Mann Chevrolet in Los Angeles and drives out in a Tuxedo Black, big block Corvette Coupe. Not a 390hp or 400hp car either, but a top-of-the-line L71 435hp Tri-Power Turbo-Jet 427 backed up with a M21 close ratio four speed manual transmission. We know that this car was built by Chevrolet in this configuration thanks to the factory window sticker that has been preserved with the car. This also confirms that this black beauty has Transistorized Ignition, 4.11 Positraction rear axle, F41 Special Purpose Suspension, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Tilt and Telescopic Steering Column, AM/FM push button radio, power windows, soft ray tinted glass, and front fender louver trim. To say this is a well optioned Corvette would be an understatement. This Corvette has beauty, power, and luxury. The American Mags the car still wears to this day were installed by Harry Mann Chevrolet before the car was delivered to the owner at his request. These are actual period pieces, not replicas, and exude late 60's style and taste. The 427 engines, while powerful and torquey, were not without fault. One of the common maladies in the day were bent pushrods and broken valve springs. This particular Corvette suffered these problems to the point that GM warrantied the engine in 1971. Out went the original long block, and in its place went a replacement 427. This engine wears an engine stamping of "CE951864". The "CE" stands for Chevrolet Engine and was stamped on warranty blocks produced at the Tonawanda New York engine plant. The "9" is the year it was produced, so it is a period 69' block, and the "51864" is the sequence number. These numbers started at 50000 and ran to 79999. The original owner was proud of his Corvette, and rightfully so, and attempted to keep it as original as possible through the years while still driving and enjoying the Vette as it was meant to be. The interior is original excluding new carpets installed in 1981, engine overhaul in 1990 at 144,000 miles, Tri-Power overhaul in 2011, and new paint in 2022. This Corvette has extensive service records from 1969 to present day. I don't think the owner ever threw anything out if it had anything to do with this prized Vette. The original owner's manual and protecto-o-plate are still present and accounted for, along with the original finance documents and title history. This Corvette has never seen snow and has lived a pampered and garaged life in sunny California and Florida. This is a chance to own one of the most highly documented Corvettes on the market today, and to write the next chapter in this classic Corvette's story.
