THE TIGER SCORES AGAIN! Or so said Pontiac's Performance Brochure from 1966. The GTO is THE original muscle car, genisis, the beginning of the greatest performance car era the motoring public has ever seen. Fueled by a generation of young people with cash in their pockets and gas in their vanes. The sky was the limit, and each year the numbers got bigger. Well, usually anyways. For 1966, the GTO could be had with two different 389CI V-8s. The standard single four-barrel carb engine made 335hp, and the infamous "Tri-Power" making 360hp. The next year the cubic inches were increased to 400 and the "tri-Power" disappeared, but the base engine remained at 335hp. The GTO for sale here is a 66' vintage, but with the heart of a 400CI from a later 68' model year. This GTO rolled off the Freemont California assembly line the third week of October 1966. Finished in beautiful Fontaine Blue over blue vinyl interior, this GTO was ordered to go fast and look good. The looks come from the optional rallye wheels over red painted drums, hood scoop, and beautiful rear flying buttress roofline. The go-fast part was probably what spelled the demise of the original 389, and the upgrade to the later 400. The GTO was so legendary because of its dual nature, fast at the strip, but yet docile enough to be a grocery getter. Referring yet again to the Pontiac Performance Brochure, "With it's 4-barrel, standard cam, and firm but civilized suspension, your grandmother can even pick up her sauerkraut juice with it.". Seriously, sauerkraut juice? Who buys sauerkraut juice? None the less, this GTO is an easy driving, smooth riding automobile that is a joy to drive and the styling is probably the best of any muscle car. The optional four speed with Hurst shifter feels great sliding from one gear to the next, the exhaust rumbles quietly, and you don't notice bumps in the road as this GTO just absorbs them without drama. The interior is "posh" with vinyl covered bucket seats, wood grain and chrome trim throughout, AM/FM radio, and full instrumentation. This GTO is in great condition, with beautiful paint and chrome. The only thing it needs is a new garage to call home. If that's you, call Brian at 352-307-1968 and "Go get em' Tiger!" Financing and transportation services are available!
