Description

The 1970's were a unique time in American culture, disco music, bell bottom jeans, and muted earthy colors on automobiles. This was a dramatic shift from the wild and bright colors found on late 60's American muscle cars, especially Mopars of that era. The black on white GTX you see for sale here didn't start out life this way, and in the taste of the modern era, it's probably better for it. This GTX originally left the St. Louis Assembly plant finished in Y9 Tawny Gold Metallic with Gold Vinyl roof, and gold high back vinyl covered bucket seats. That's a whole lot of 1970s color combo right there. While the fender tag is gone to history, we can look at the original window sticker and bill of sale included with this car that tells the story of the metamorphosis this car has gone through. Sold new from Lawrence Chrysler Plymouth on March 16th of 1971, this GTX cost $3,990.36 and was factory equipped with the U-Code Hi-Performance 370hp/480lb ft. tq. 440CI V-8, 727 Torqueflite Automatic transmission, and Chrysler 8 3/4in. rear axle with 3.23 axle ratio. Options for this car included the light package, console, tinted windshield, dual racing mirrors, Strato Ventilation, pedal dress package, AM radio, interior hood release, rear seat speaker, power steering, vinyl roof, and chrome road wheels. Sold new to one Mr. Richard Morris of Richmond Virginia and judging from the extensive receipts and vehicle inspection receipts, stayed in his possession up until 1990. From there the car went to South Carolina and onto North Carolina, before coming to Florida. What does that tell you? Well, that means a clean, well-cared for southern car that still wears all of its original sheet metal. This GTX went from golden goose to black beauty somewhere in the early 2000s and this really changed the overall persona of the car. Not just a quickie respray, this car is black top to bottom, inside and out. Upon close inspection, if you didn't know the car was originally gold from the paperwork, you would be hard pressed to find any remnants of the original finish. The dash is painted black, inside behind the front fenders is black, underneath is black, and every possible nook and cranny is black. No corners were cut here, and the paint has an excellent degree of gloss, and the panel fits are better than factory. Under the hood is the original 440 that has been rebuilt with a mild cam to give it a great sound and even more power. The Torque Flight has been rebuilt, and the rear axle received a spool assembly to make the most of the almost 500lb. ft. of torque. This makes this GTX one bad bruiser, and it will smoke the tires with a mere push of the gas pedal. The exhaust has been updated with Magnaflow mufflers, custom x pipe, and long tube headers that play the sweet song of American horsepower loud and clear. Power is nothing without control, and in updating the car to the 21st century standards and colors, this GTX received Wilwood power disc brakes at all four corners. These brakes give this big, heavy automobile stopping power that could only have been dreamt of in 1971. Those discs weren't going to fit in the original 14" road wheels, so on went custom 17' Ion five spoke aluminum wheels wrapped in sticky, z-rated, blackwall radials Inside this brute, out went the gold vinyl and tan interior trim and in went a striking combination of black and white to match the exterior color combination. This really ties this car together, and the overall aesthetics are very unique and attractive appearance. Like a caterpillar becoming a beautiful butterfly, this GTX shed it's 1970's skin and to become a gorgeous black stallion. This classic Mopar is sure to sell, so contact Brian at 352-307-1968 and you can drive it home today!! Financing and transportation services are available!!
